Central Balkan Natural Park

Central Balkan Natural Park is among the most valuable and biggest European protected territories – created to protect the unique nature in the middle part of Stara Planina mountain and the related traditions and lifestyle. Spanning on an area of 716 km2 the National Park protects habitats of rare and endangered species, ecosystems with great biological diversity and significance for the science and preserves the original beauty of the area. The park includes nine natural reserves – Boatin, Tsarichina, Kozya stena, Steneto, Severen Dzhendem, Peeshti skali, Sokolna, Dzhendema and Stara reka, occupying one third of its territory. The Park is a favourite place for tourists and nature lovers. The Central Balkan Natural Park is included in the indicative list of UNESCO in 1984.
